With just under a month to go we look forward to August's A Night With… where we welcome the first lady of minimal techno’s and the jewel in Minus’s crown, Magda.

Magda is a rare breed, a DJ that has made a career based solely around their talents behind the decks. The Minus mainstay has put her name to many revered productions, but the reason that she been so many people’s favourite DJs of the past few years lies with what she delivers in her electric and addictive sets. She has goddess-like skills that manipulate the physical and temporal fabric of sound waves like building blocks. She slowly and deliberately constructs a groove by adding beat after beat, gradually paving the way for a scream-inducing climax by the crowd.

Polish born but growing up in Detroit, perhaps the defining moment of her career and quite possibly her life, was meeting the seminal Minus master Richie Hawtin at one of his legendary Hot Box parties. An intense flurry of activity followed, including being invited to play at Hawtin’s 13 Below night and the formation of her relationship with Marc Houle.  Her move to Berlin in 2003, saw her exploring new software based production possibilities, honing her turntable skills and extending her DJ sets in order to satisfy the insatiable appetites of Berlin’s club kids.  Her unique and hybrid sound that emerged from this period, drawing inspiration from the twin towers of Berlin and Detroit, has gone on to capture the imagination of clubbers the world over

Magda continued to stamp her name as a DJ on the Berlin house and techno scene and in 2005 released her debut production, the ‘Stop’ EP, on the Minus label, the ultimate authority when it comes to Techno. She has since curated her own Minus compilation, the highly influential ‘She’s A Dancing Machine’ album, and remixed the eminent Depeche Mode. She’s toured the world with Hawtin and the rest of the Minus gang, contributed mixes to the Fabric and Resident Advisor mix series and last year released her debut studio long player ‘From The Fallen Page’, also on Minus.

With her multi-faceted, interlocking rhythms sets so captivating, A Night With Magda will undoubtedly be one to remember.
